Movie Trailers

I have annalysed the trailer for the film 'Harry Brown'. This is what I found out;

Genre: Urban/Crime

Narrative: A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a rough, violent housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard, and when Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act, and is determined to bring justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police.

Unique Selling Point: Stars Michael Caine; renowned British actor who has appeared in more than 100 films, and is one of only two actors to have been nominated for an Academy Award for acting in every decade since the 1960s.

Target Audience: The film is rated an 18, so its aimed at adults.

Music: Starts with slow, solem music, but then leads on to a vibrant drum & bass song when the action starts.

Shot Types/Camera Angles: Starts off with camera angle looking down from Harrys bedroom onto the street where some youths are breaking into a car. After that there is plenty of medium close ups of the actors confronting and conversing.

Pace: Very fast paced trailer, with the scenes switching very frequently.

Dialogue: Regular dialogue between Harry and others, including with the Police, his friend Leonard and some of the suspects for his friends murder. Also some dialogue between the Police and some suspects when interviewing.

Voiceover: There was no voiceover.

Special Effects: Explosions when Harry blows up the building, and also when the youths set the car alight. Also there is many fighting and shooting sequences, and a car crash.

Credits and intertitles: In the middle of the trailer an intertitle appears confirming Michael Caine is acting Harry Brown, and then towards the end of the trailer there are quotes from critics, such as 'Truely Awesome' By GQ.
At the end of the trailer the film name appears on the screen, then the credits appear for a split second, followed by the release date and film website.





I also annalysed the trailer for the newly released film 'Before I Self Destruct'.

Genre: Urban/Crime

Narrative: A coming of age story about an inner-city youth raised by a hardworking single mother. When his dream of becoming a basketball player fails to materialize, he finds himself employed in a supermarket. After his mother is tragically gunned down, Clarence is consumed by revenge and takes up a life of crime in order to support his younger brother.

Unique Selling Point: Stars 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson), successful and famous hip-hop artist and entrepreneur.

Target Audience: it is an American movie, so is rated 'R' for bloody violence, strong language and some strong sexuality. It is aimed at older teenagers and adults.

Music: The music starts off with a slow calm beat at the beggining, but when the action starts it becomes a more heavy beat, and near the end it becomes quicker and more vibrant. There is music through the majority of the trailer.

Shot types/Camera angles: Medium close-ups are the most commonly used shot in this trailer, mainly used whilst actors are conversing. Low angle shots are also used reletively often, for example when the gang is walking in the corridor.

Pace: The trailer starts at a slow pace, with the scenes not switching that regular, but it becomes more fast paced once the action starts, with regular scene changes.

Dialogue: There is regular dialogue between Clarence and the other actors in the trailer.

Voiceover: There is no voiceover.

Special effects: The only special effects are the gun fights and gunshots.

Credits and intertitles: There are intertitles spaced out during the trailer, stating that it is Curtis Jacksons first film as director, and informing the audience of the music albums he has released. There are credits at the end for a split second, followed by the words; 'coming soon'.
